Tong Si Nian looked at the hospital bed.
Tong Sui lay on the bed, his pale skin revealing blue veins. An IV needle was inserted into the back of his hand.
He frowned, unsure if it was the high fever or nightmarish dreams that plagued him, while sweat beaded on his forehead.
He couldn’t understand when his younger brother, an Alpha who was supposed to have a healthy physique, had become so fragile.
He was indeed biased against this brother, forgetting that he was just young and playful, with a good nature.
Tong Si Nian kept vigil by the bedside until late into the night. The butler beside him urged, “You should go back and rest; I will keep watch for you.”
Because of the urgent situation, they rushed to the emergency room and didn’t even choose a private ward; the doctors were busy as well.
“It’s fine, you go back; don’t keep Mom and Dad waiting.”
“Okay, take care of yourself.”
After the butler left, Tong Si Nian rubbed his aching temples, staring at the IV bags as the person on the bed finally cooled down from the fever.
After withdrawing the IV, the doctor remarked that Tong Sui still needed to stay for observation.
He sent a message home to report that everything was fine.
After finishing these tasks, Tong Si Nian was too exhausted and finally succumbed to sleep at the foot of the bed when dawn broke.
When daylight fully arrived.
Tong Sui, who had slept all day, fluttered his eyelashes and slowly lifted his heavy eyelids, looking at the stark white room, feeling momentarily disoriented.
He focused on the glass window on the wall for a moment.
Where was he now?
Voices and families of patients circulated the hallway outside the ward.
He looked down.
At the foot of the bed, Tong Si Nian’s head was buried, and the coat that had been draped over his shoulder had fallen to the floor, but he was too deep in sleep to notice.
The system chimed in: [You had a fever last night; he brought you to the hospital and has been here all night.]
Though Tong Sui’s fever had subsided, he still felt weak.
His mind was also slow to process.
He tried hard to recall whether this part existed in the original plot and after a search, he found it.
However, the original character’s high fever was only discovered the next day, and after Tong Si Nian had handed him over to the doctor, he went to work shortly after.
And somehow, Tong Si Nian had stayed with him all night.
Tong Sui felt momentarily confused.
He lifted the blanket and picked up the coat that had fallen on the floor, shook off the dust, and draped it back over Tong Si Nian.
Just then, a figure passed like a tall pine outside the glass window.
A familiar sensation washed over him.
In an instant, his body reacted faster than his rational thought.
He rushed out of the ward.
The slender figure in the long corridor didn’t pause, seemingly just passing by, walking quickly and getting further away.
“Luo Luo!”
Everyone around was drawn by his voice and looked over.
But it didn’t catch the attention of that figure, who was about to disappear around the corner of the hallway.
Tong Sui chased after him, the distance closing in; he reached out, wanting to grasp the hem of the person’s clothing tightly.
However, at the moment he touched it, the person dodged away.
The hem brushed past his fingertips, leaving him grasping at air.
The figure turned his head.
The dark eyes, as black as ink, scrutinized him intensely, yet the familiar face bore an expression of indifference Tong Sui had never seen before.
It was as if he was looking at a complete stranger.
“Luo Luo.”
Tong Sui took another step forward.
His voice was breathy and a bit hoarse; due to his illness, running just a few steps made him break into a sweat.
Ye Lin Yuan gazed at him for several seconds, as if confirming that the person before him posed no threat, and withdrew the vigilance from his eyes.
“You’ve mistaken me for someone else.”
“I haven’t mistaken you; I…”
The system interrupted his words: [Your current behavior doesn’t align with the character’s logic; he has no memory. If you continue, he will think you’re insane.]
Tong Sui swallowed his words.
He focused intently on Ye Lin Yuan’s face, moving from the high-arched brow to the straight nose, and lingering on the thin lips he had kissed countless times.
Finally, he timidly met the pair of cold, unfeeling eyes.
It felt as if he had been pricked by ice, wanting to retreat yet unwilling to look away.
Tong Sui thought he could face his new lover with composure, but he realized he had overestimated his ability to bear it.
Ye Lin Yuan was not a patient person; he should have directly turned and left without wasting time.
Yet, inexplicably, he stood there.
He watched calmly as this unknown individual stood before him, staring fixedly for a long while.
He even felt his eyes grow warm, as if he was about to cry?
Ye Lin Yuan frowned involuntarily, feeling a dull sensation in his chest.
“Have we met before?”
Ye Lin Yuan’s memory was professionally trained; he could almost remember everyone he had met, and the person in front of him had an exceptionally handsome face.
If they had met, he would not have forgotten.
Tong Sui shook his head, deeply bowing to him while staring at his toes. “I… I’m sorry. I mistook you for someone else.”
After saying that, he turned and ran away.
A sweet and refreshing scent of oranges drifted through the air.
Ye Lin Yuan stood still.
He rarely smelled such pheromone fragrances from an Alpha.
Analyzing the faint pheromone leaking through his sweat, it should belong to a superior Alpha.
Ye Lin Yuan turned and left, heading to the director’s office of the hospital.
He pushed the door open.
He sat down skillfully across from the director’s desk.
“Has the report come out?” Ye Lin Yuan asked.
